Primary Teaching

Primary school with approx. 200 pupils. Mixed gender and mixed ability primary school. 
Completed team teaching over the course of 4 days, 4x 1 hour lessons. Based on the IMMA Lucien Freud Exhibition as a starting point for the project

Unit of Learning 

4th Class - Portraiture
Theme: Self

Aim: Introduce the artist Lucien Freud, experiment with materials to create self portraits exploring the art elements and design principles

Learning Intentions

  • Introduce pupils to Lucian freud’s artwork, subjects and style.

  • To focus on self portraiture and develop skills for painting, collaging and working 3D.

  • To reinforce art elements and design principle in each session:

  • Processes, painting, collaging, clay making, marbling.

  • To compare and contrast Lucian frauds portraiture with other artists.

  • To enable students to successfully evaluate their work.


Learning Outcomes

  • We thoroughly enjoyed this experience and learned alot  including;

  • Time management is very important.

  • Preparation is key for classes and being organised.

  • Demonstrate and engagement with a class very important.

  • Engage with students in a professional and respectful manner.

  • Ensure to keep activities and tasks age appropriate i.e. they found the book binding difficult, maybe try an easier method.

  • Classes should be interactive, enjoyable and fun to hold students attention span.

  • Aim and focus is to encourage and motivate students to achieve to their full potential regardless of artistic ability.
